New Rowlett mayor and council members sworn in at special meeting

In the oath ceremony, Jeff Winget said, “I, Jeff Winget, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of mayor, City of Rowlett.” After the oath, Winget delivered brief remarks thanking his family and supporters and outlining priorities such as reopening the wet zone, improving playgrounds and street lighting on Lakeview Parkway, and upgrading traffic signals and neighborhood streets.
Marvin Gibbs and Mike Britton took the oath for their respective seats. Gibbs thanked his supporters; Britton — who noted his 36 years of service in the police department — thanked his wife and pledged to serve all city residents regardless of how they voted.
The council recessed to complete the ceremonial items and then returned to conclude the meeting. The oaths were part of the May 12 special meeting following formal certification of the May 3 election results.
