Harrison County commissioners on May 7 awarded demolition contracts to Hoffman Excavating for two groups of properties the county intends to clear.
Group A (several structures) was awarded at $94,900 and Group B (eight structures) at $68,000, with the vendor telling staff the work could be finished before mid-June to meet fiscal-year timing. County staff said these demolitions are funded with county money (not DEP funds) and that liens will be placed on the parcels to recover costs when possible.
Commissioners clarified that the Ellis property restaurant is on the demolition list but had been designated for last removal pending the commission’s other negotiations on that property. Commissioners directed the contractor to complete the contracted demolitions by the mid-June deadline and asked staff to track invoices so demolitions would post in the current fiscal year.
Discussion vs. decision: commissioners made formal awards of both contracts and set completion expectations; the county will file liens against the properties to recoup demolition costs.
Ending: The contractor expects to complete the work by mid-June (the county set June 15 as a working target); staff will monitor completion and place liens as allowed by county policy.
