The commission approved $1,500 for the Richard I. Aquila (Aquino) YMCA 5K and walk presented by Rick Johnson, CEO of the YMCA of North Central West Virginia, who said the event promotes health and community inclusion.
The commission approved $5,000 to the Hudson Piller Foundation for the Fallen Stars Memorial 5K, a fundraiser that supports scholarships for criminal-justice students and aid to families of fallen officers. The foundation representative outlined recent donations including canine training kits for K-9 units and broader outreach to officers in need.
The commission approved $2,000 to Together With Veterans (Harrison County Veterans Outreach Coalition) for a veterans service fair held quarterly that brings vendors and free services to veterans in a single location. Tom Willis, representing the coalition, said prior fairs had been successful and well attended.
Each allocation was approved by voice vote. Commissioners thanked the presenters and asked about event advertising and coordination; staff will process the disbursements through the county's normal accounts-payable and grant processes.
