Asbury Park Zoning Board confirms officers, planners and engineers in annual reorganization

The Asbury Park Zoning Board of Adjustment held its annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 28, 2025, approving officer appointments, professional engagements and the 2025 meeting calendar.
The board confirmed routine housekeeping appointments including Marie Rodriguez as board secretary and Jack Serpico as board attorney. The Beekman law firm was named conflict counsel; Clark, Caitlin & Hintz (CCH) and T&M Associates were designated as board planner and conflict board planner, respectively; Avakian was appointed board engineer and T&M Associates was also named conflict board engineer. The board approved APTV for recording services and designated the Coaster and the Asbury Park Press as the board’s official newspapers for 2025. The board adopted the 2025 meeting schedule with a one-week change to the June meeting (moving from June 10 to June 17).
Most routine appointments were approved unanimously by roll call. The only contested vote during reorganization was for vice chair. After nominations for the position, John Scully was elected vice chair over Dan Harris by a 5-3 tally; the board called votes aloud and recorded members’ choices before the chair announced the result.
Chairman Abeloni opened the meeting and handled multiple motions to appoint professionals and adopt procedural items. Roll calls were held for each motion; where roll-call results were read aloud the board recorded all affirmative “yes” votes for the listed appointments.
The reorganization establishes the panel’s leadership and its roster of outside professionals for the coming year, setting who will advise the board on zoning interpretation, planning and engineering matters.
Meeting participants who cast recorded votes included Wendy Glassman, Daniel Harris, John Hall, Russell Lewis, Natalie Passerini, Tim Slick, Vice Chair John Scully and Chairman Abeloni. Jill Potter was absent for the meeting.
