Administrator updates council on paving, Little League turf, county fiber and budget timeline

Borough Administrator David told the council at Thursday’s meeting that PSEG intends to pave about 20 roads in Tenafly as part of its gas service and repaving work in 2025 and 2026, and that the borough is awaiting a firm list of streets and an updated map from the utility contractor.
David reported a municipal field beautification project will begin with a pre-inspection next week and said a contractor is scheduled to start on Feb. 24. He added that FieldTurf (an ESNJ vendor) is slated to provide pricing for the borough’s Little League field; the contractor expects to return pricing by the following Friday and the borough plans to adopt a resolution of award on Feb. 18. The contractor has committed to complete the Little League project by April 18, ahead of scheduled events.
David also said the county fiber connection was installed the previous Friday and that the borough is transitioning municipal computer support and Internet provision onto the county fiber. He told council members the move will allow the police department to obtain Internet through county service and may reduce duplicative services; during the discussion David referenced a monthly figure of about $150 for current service and council members questioned prior annual costs mentioned on the record.
On budgeting, David recognized the CFO and staff for finalizing the 2025 budget book; he said auditors were completing the borough’s financial statements and verifying revenue numbers and that the budget book would be distributed to the council the following week for methodical review.
No new appropriations were approved during the meeting. Council members asked a few technical questions about turf layering and construction phasing, and staff committed to share engineering plans and vendor details with council members.
