Staff recommended prioritizing land acquisition and municipal park improvements over smaller historic-preservation projects because historically Tenafly’s awards have favored larger-dollar projects. The administrator noted past award amounts and said Grove Street Park is currently under construction with prior grant funds.
Council members discussed using a circulation memo to collect member suggestions and have staff present a narrowed list. The administrator asked that suggestions be emailed to him roughly the Thursday or Friday before the next scheduled council meeting to allow circulation and review; he offered to compile suggestions and present them for council discussion. The council also discussed obtaining the county’s maintenance-rotation list for park sites to inform project selection.
No binding decisions or specific applications were approved at the meeting; staff asked council members to forward ideas for the next meeting so the council can vote on project nominations before the open-space funding deadline.
