District previews summer capital projects: portables, roofs, siding, HVAC, cameras and an aquatic slide tower design

District facilities staff provided an overview April 30 of planned summer capital work across Snohomish School District sites, detailing projects, procurement steps and funding sources.

Key projects and schedule highlights

- Cathcart Elementary: Install a purchased double portable classroom. Permits submitted; site work to begin after school ends with delivery in early July.

- Central Campus: Re-roof, downspout and gutter replacement; spot siding replacement and exterior painting; additional site prep tied to program moves.

- Dutch Hill: Spot or full siding replacement and exterior painting (scope to be finalized); a contract/PO is in place to replace the multipurpose-area air-handling unit.

- Emerson: Replace aged domestic booster pump that supports the school’s gravity-fed water supply.

- Little Cedars: Replace two existing exterior cameras with a 10-camera security system covering most exterior views; new video platform for viewing.

- RFC (district offices): Replace second-floor carpet and install a new cubicle system in special services and superintendent areas; carpet replacement in training and boardroom after July meeting.

- Veterans Stadium: Replace amplifiers (six aging amplifiers to be replaced with three newer amplifiers) to improve sound quality.

- Freezer repairs: Assessments and repairs planned for Valley View, Little Cedars and Glacier Peak; staff will obtain multiple estimates prior to contracting.

- Aquatics slide tower: District issued a PO for a consultant to develop design specifications; plan to bid the work this summer and present a work plan to the board later.

Maintenance and other work

- Summer custodial and maintenance work including HVAC filter changes, mechanical reviews, parking-lot striping, detention-pond and bioswale work, window washing, gym-floor refinishing, and installing smaller playground equipment purchased for Emerson.

Funding and cost estimates

- Facilities staff estimated the total of projects discussed (excluding the RFC cubicle work) at about $1,700,000. The projects will be funded from capital funds derived from the district levy, impact fees and interest earnings, according to staff.

Procurement timeline notes

- Some siding projects were published to the small-works roster with pre-bid walk-throughs scheduled for May 7 and bids due May 13 (dates provided by staff for Dutch Hill and Seattle Hill bids).

Board members asked for follow-up on Dutch Hill crosswalk/transportation coordination with county staff and asked facilities to review the covered outdoor play area at Dutch Hill as part of the exterior-siding work. Facilities staff said they would look into those items.
