Town selects consultant for Lake Street greenway TAP study; feasibility study to follow

Town planning staff told the commission the town was selected for a federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant to study the Lake Street/Greenway G3 connection and that a consultant has been chosen pending final written confirmation from the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
The scope will begin with a feasibility analysis that, if supported by stakeholders and property owners, could be followed by grant requests for design and construction funding. Staff said the town’s match would be 20 percent and that the project is expected to proceed in phases over several years.
Phase 2 of the existing Greenway is about 60% design, staff said, and the town is engaged with the regional Metropolitan Planning Organization and DOT on design revisions. Staff said there may be an opportunity to include bike crossings and green‑street elements at an intersection currently under discussion with DOT.
Planning staff said they would inform the commission of the consultant’s name once the DOT’s formal letter is received and that the study will include outreach to businesses and neighborhood stakeholders as part of the feasibility work.
