Birds Eye WPCA resiliency project secures DEP permit; sidewalk work moves to final design and bidding

Town engineer John Casey updated the subcommittee that the Birds Eye WPCA resiliency project has cleared a regulatory milestone and is moving toward final design and procurement.
Casey said the town recently received its Department of Energy and Environmental Protection permit for the treatment-plant resiliency project. "We just got our DEP permit," he said. He added that with the permit in hand the project will move to final design and then to bidding.
Casey said the town is continuing to work on funding options to bring the project to fruition and that the town's consultant BSC is contracted to coordinate the resiliency work along with plans to construct sidewalks on Beacon Street and Birds Eye and to complete a small remaining segment near Elm Street.
The engineer said the town will provide schedule updates once a bidding schedule and award timeline are clearer. No roads closures were announced at the meeting; Casey said he will provide notice once the town sets an award and construction period.
The subcommittee did not take a formal vote on this update; it received the report for planning and coordination purposes.
