Provo School Board adopts website accessibility policy, approves $245,000 HVAC rooftop replacements

The Provo City School Board of Education on May 27 adopted a new website-content policy aimed at improving ADA accessibility and approved a $245,000 large-purchase request to replace rooftop HVAC units at Canyon Crest and Timpanogos elementaries.
Board President Jennifer Partridge presided over the meeting. The board voted unanimously on both items during the business portion of the session.
Caleb Price, director of communications and public relations for Provo School District, told the board that Policy 71-50 is intended to help the district maintain website content and meet federal accessibility guidelines. "This is a new policy that will help us as we're trying to maintain our content on our website, especially to make sure that we're, ADA accessible and and complying with all the federal guidelines, for accessibility," Price said.
Meg Van Wagnon moved to approve Policy 71-50 “as discussed in the study session”; Lisa Boyse seconded the motion. The board voted unanimously to adopt the policy.
On a separate motion, the board approved a $245,000 purchase to replace rooftop units at Canyon Crest and Timpanogos elementaries. Devin Dailey, business administrator, told the board there are two quotes for the work: one to replace rooftop units at Canyon Crest that were damaged by hail (the district will pursue an insurance claim) and one to replace units at Timpanogos as part of the regular replacement cycle. "So these are for there's 2, quotes intermixed, for rooftop units for Canyon Crest and Timpanogos. Canyon Crest is to replace some hail damaged rooftop units, which we will be working with the insurance to do a claim on. And then the other 1 is for Timpanogos, and it's just in the cycle of being replaced," Dailey said.
Lisa Boyse moved to approve the large-purchase request in the amount of $245,000; Melanie Hall seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The board closed the business meeting after those votes and adjourned. Board members noted a reminder that district representatives who can attend will meet with U.S. Senator Mike Lee on Thursday at noon.
