Trustees also discussed the CTE (career and technical education) shop yard on the west side, where staff prefer minimal windows for safety and functional reasons, and whether to add higher windows for light. A multi‑panel brick wall adjacent to the CTE yard drew design objections: several trustees suggested breaking the wall visually with landscaping, columns or darker façade materials to avoid a large unbroken expanse and to reduce graffiti risk.
Other topics included bus and parent‑dropoff routing (buses will use an east‑side route near the seminary, with parent drop‑off moved from the current bus area), location and distribution of bike racks (trustees said bike racks should be visible, placed at several entrances and consider covered parking for e‑bikes if cost allows), and the placement of the stadium, gym and athletic fields relative to the new classroom wing.
Trustees praised the renderings overall but urged architects to present options that include landscaping plans, alternate façade colors or materials and lighting controls that limit continuous nighttime illumination. Board members who reviewed the slides asked the architects to model darker façade accents on some walls, show landscaping that will be irrigated and propose architectural columns or relief to reduce the visual mass of long walls.
No vote was taken; the board scheduled a meeting with the architects to discuss the requested adjustments and asked staff to bring architects’ responses to the next board meeting.
