Staff provided an update on recurring and upcoming programs aimed at Victoria residents aged 55 and older, highlighted new registration options, and outlined outreach plans for summer months.
Alyssa reviewed regular programming: Donuts in Victoria (a daytime program for older adults held the third Wednesday of the month, except December), topic-focused sessions (utility-bill workshops, taxes, transportation updates), and the senior resource guide updated annually. She noted that the spring–summer recreation brochure has been mailed and extras are available at the recreation center.
Citizens Academy, a program that provides behind-the-scenes tours of city services, was described as starting the upcoming Thursday and running weekly through mid-May; staff encouraged committee members to register. The committee’s annual volunteer appreciation event is scheduled for June 9 at 5:30 p.m.; staff said a sign-up email will be sent to members this week.
Staff announced a continued series, Bingo in the Park, and said paper registration is now available in addition to online signup. Artwork by local artist Deb Zeller is on display at the recreation center. An events coordinator will join City staff in mid to late May and will take primary responsibility for logistics, outreach and volunteer sign-ups for summer events; staff said the coordinator will contact committee members about shifts and provide shirts and lanyards.
Staff also confirmed that the committee will not meet in June, July and August if members opt to participate in summer outreach events; regular meetings will resume in September. The committee’s next scheduled meeting is May 5.
