The City of Victoria Senior Council reviewed its summer engagement schedule and outreach plans, confirmed that committee meetings for June, July and August will be canceled, and said staff will post notice that the committee may have a quorum at some public summer events.
Staff said committee members have signed up for event dates and that a new events coordinator, Nick, will be the on-site contact during summer activities. Staff asked members to expect an email with assignments and said they will provide printed resource materials at booths, including the city’s senior resource guide, walking route maps, Parks and Recreation brochures, and materials from Carver County Public Health.
Why it matters: The events are a primary outreach opportunity for older residents. Staff said the booths will carry information on Medicare, fraud protection, the Minnesota Senior LinkAge Line phone/resource card, and a sign-up list for the city’s digital newsletter.
Events and partners described - Park pop-ups: Hunters Brook Park (in coordination with the Parks and Recreation Committee) and Marsh Hollow (new park) will host family activities, games and food‑truck options. - Trail pop-up: A morning event at Lions Park (staff later confirmed a 9–10 a.m. window) to greet trail users and hand out coffee and materials. - Classic Car Night: Downtown at the bandstand; a traditional evening event. - Concert series (“Live by the Lake”): Staff said the concerts will run on Wednesdays beginning in June; staff noted dates will be confirmed and calendar checks are pending. - Farmers market: Scheduled at Inky Brewing; staff said ownership is transitioning to Omni Brewing and they will advise if that affects the market location. - Victoria Vicks baseball: Staff noted the local baseball team’s season schedule is listed in Parks and Recreation materials and on social media.
Public health and senior resources Carver County Public Health introduced new emergency‑preparedness staff who will gather community input on preparedness needs. Staff said county public health will provide printed materials explaining public‑health services and offer resource lists for seniors. The meeting materials will also include a Medicare 101 course offering (a free class scheduled for the next day at 11 a.m. at the Victoria Recreation Center) and information from the Minnesota Senior LinkAge Line.
Committee logistics and assignments Staff said the senior committee’s June–August meetings were officially canceled; the events coordinator will contact members about assigned dates. Staff will post required open‑meeting notices when the committee will be present at events and will provide packet materials (walking routes, resource guides and vendor/partner flyers) at each booth.
Speakers and staff emphasized outreach partners and materials as central to the summer plan and asked committee members to forward any additional ideas to staff by email.
