Staff also reported that Habitat for Humanity declined the property when it was offered to them. Council members discussed whether to engage a realtor, sell in-house or wait until an economic development plan and an economic development director structure are in place.
One council member recommended holding the parcel until the city defines its economic development goals and the role of a possible in-house economic development director. Another council member suggested placing a for-sale sign on the property and posting it on the city website so developers could contact the city if interested. Council member Mark seconded the motion to retain the parcel. The motion carried.
The council directed no immediate expenditure to market the property and left open the option to revisit the parcel’s disposition after the March 26 economic development discussion and any subsequent policy changes.
No formal sale or contract was approved at the meeting.
