Board supporters said keeping Dr. Solon under contract would provide continuity as the district advances planned modernization projects and ongoing academic initiatives. "I will be supporting the superintendent's contract this evening," a board member said during the meeting. Several other members cited continuity, recent performance and the expected cost and disruption of an external search.
Anne Cullinan, the personnel committee chair, made the motion to approve the contract, and it was seconded by Mr. White. The board recorded the vote as unanimous. The motion as read at the meeting said the contract had been "presented and discussed in executive session on May 15, subject to minor edits." The board also noted there are accountability measures built into the agreement and that the full contract will be available on the town web site and on the Board of Education's web page.
Dr. Solon thanked the board after the vote: "I just want to thank the board for their support," he said, adding personal remarks of appreciation for staff and family.
The board did not announce an effective start date or other implementation milestones during the public discussion; the contract itself and any further administrative details are to be made available in the board's posted materials.
