Finance committee reports audit results, FEMA closeout and plans for future‑ready projects

Mitch Baldy, assistant superintendent for business, reported to the Gates Chili Board of Education on the Finance, Facilities and Audit Committee meeting held May 19, 2025. Baldy said the independent auditor, Christy Beach of EFPR Group, presented the audit plan for the next fiscal year and that Clifford Tompkins of Fried Matzek summarized positive internal‑audit results on cash disbursements.
Baldy said the district completed FEMA closeout procedures and received pandemic relief funds totaling more than $1 million. He said draft copies of a district reserve plan were distributed to the finance planning and audit committee and will be brought to the board for potential improvement at the June 17 meeting.
On staffing and budget planning, Baldy said the district will post and hire a budget analyst. He also discussed replacement of classroom furniture at elementary schools and provided updates on several projects: Building Brighter Futures, the Future Ready planning process and a planned music department storage facility expected to begin construction in about a month. Baldy said the district is exploring tax‑incentive opportunities for electric‑bus purchases.
The committee’s meeting concluded after the presentations; Baldy invited board questions and none were raised at the time.
