District 300 announces superintendent's advisory council for high school students

Superintendent Dr. Smith and staff announced the creation of a Superintendent's Advisory Council that will begin in the 2025–26 school year and include student representatives from each of the district’s three high schools. The district plans to recruit 12 student leaders—selected from rising ninth, tenth and eleventh graders—who will meet with the superintendent’s office to provide input on issues affecting students.
Staff said applications will be distributed through Schoology so every eligible student receives access. The district plans to complete selection over the summer and have the council in place by the start of the next school year. Presenters described the council as an opportunity for students to influence district decision-making and to gain a leadership credential for college and resumes.
Dr. Smith said the council is one of three district “anchors” introduced this year—student voice and leadership, professional learning communities and strengthening partnerships—and described the advisory council as a way to further amplify student voice.
