Board recognizes APS Training Academy for STEM partnership and donation of robotics equipment

Aurora West USD 129 presented certificates of appreciation April 21 to APS Training Academy for an extended partnership that provides in-school, after-school and field-trip STEM programming to district students.
District staff said APS Training Academy has been active in the district’s after-school programs and that, when the district stopped offering robotics courses in the same format, APS purchased the district’s robotic arms so the equipment would remain available to students. APS founder Harish Ananthapad Manabhan told the board the organization began in 2019 with a small cohort and is “approaching 10,000 learners” by the end of the summer and currently serves students in 14 district schools.
Nicole Astra, APS executive director, and Kelsey Cousins, operations manager, joined Harish Ananthapad Manabhan to receive certificates from Dr. Smith. The board praised the partnership and noted plans to continue collaboration and to expand student access to the organization’s facilities and programs.

Board members said they hoped to grow the partnership and thanked APS for in-kind services that include student kits that children can take home; staff noted typical kit costs of about $130 to $150 for materials.
