Commission authorizes auditor to proceed with election process for Meadow Ridge Road District

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners authorized the county auditor on May 13 to proceed with the statutory steps to set an election on a petition to establish the Meadow Ridge Road District.
Auditor Sherry Lund told the board she received a petition on April 29 and certified it contained a valid number of signatures. Lund said the authorization is a procedural step required by state law to advertise and set an election; if voters approve the district the board will later issue an order establishing it as a taxing entity.
Lund described the district’s location as the area near County Road 110 and Highway 11, under Nine Mile Creek, and said the district would encompass the two roads highlighted in the petition: Prairie Lane and Ridgeway Road. She said road districts, if established by voter approval, can levy taxes to fund road maintenance, snow removal and replacement and otherwise manage roads within the district.
Commissioners asked whether establishing the road district will create county costs; Lund said the county’s role is limited to setting the election and handling the required advertisement (she noted a typical advertising fee of about $120). She said the district board, if formed, would manage and tax for road maintenance and operations.
The board approved the motion to authorize the auditor to proceed and set the election on a unanimous roll‑call vote. Lund said that if voters approve the district, she will return to the board with an order formally establishing the Meadow Ridge Road District.
