Sherry, Lincoln County auditor, told commissioners the treasurer’s office had $15,500 budgeted for furniture and minor equipment and the general government budget included $342,500 for the satellite office. She said she had not seen movement on the project and recommended removing the authority while discussions continue.
Commissioners discussed the status of the building with county staff and representatives of the Harrisburg School District. One commissioner reported the Harrisburg School District has not yet decided whether to sell the building and that a superintendent’s decision could occur this summer; the Harrisburg Economic Development Corporation has encouraged the district to resolve the issue. County staff said there was interest in having a county presence in Harrisburg but no timetable for a final decision.
The commission approved the budget reductions by roll call vote. Commissioners described the change as prudent fiscal housekeeping while the district and local partners consider next steps.
