Lincoln County staff announced on March 11 that the county’s motor vehicle office changed internal processing hours after implementing a new motor vehicle system known in the meeting as the "605 drive" system.
Franny (county treasurer/staff) told the board the new system replaced the prior SD CARS platform on Feb. 17 and requires end-of-day balancing that cannot be completed during morning hours. As a result, staff will stop starting new title transfers and new titles after 4:30 p.m.; the office will remain open until 5 p.m. to process renewals and tax transactions.
Franny said the new system is fully implemented. She added staff plan to post the updated procedure on the county website and the sheriff’s office Facebook page effective April 1 to notify the public. Staff said customers already in line for a title transfer at 4:30 p.m. will be assisted for that transaction but new title starts will not be accepted after 4:30.
No board action was required; staff implemented the operational change due to system balancing procedures.
