County staff explained that a small number of juveniles had been placed for extended periods at a state juvenile services center, producing expenses that will exhaust the department's existing allocation for the fiscal year. "There's some juveniles that have been housed ... for an extended period of time, and, of course, that's very expensive," staff told the board.
After public hearing and no public comment, a motion to approve the supplemental budget carried on a recorded voice vote.
Clarification: following the vote, a county correction was announced noting an internal line-item figure; a staff member said "Correction. It was only a hundred thousand that was in there at $2,020,000." The board still approved the supplemental appropriation as noticed on the agenda.
Ending: Staff will process the transfer and monitor juvenile-detention expenditures for the remainder of the fiscal year and report back if further adjustments are needed.
