Council approves $29,650 for synthetic turf at Community Outreach Center to reduce mud and improve usability

City staff asked the Grapevine City Council to approve the purchase and installation of synthetic grass at the Community Outreach Center; the council approved the contract by voice vote.
Chief Hamlin presented the request and said, “The total cost of this effort is $29,650. Funds for this project were approved as part of the FY 2025 annual budget for the Community Outreach Division.” He told the council the turf would be installed in areas between walkways and the portable buildings to reduce mud and runoff and improve usability for visitors and programming.
Council members asked about extending turf further in future years; Chief Hamlin said it was “the goal to… mitigate as much of that runoff as we can in years to come.” After discussion a council member moved to approve and another seconded; the motion carried.
The contract award and appropriation were approved without further amendment. No additional budget appropriation was requested at the meeting; staff said funds were already included in the FY2025 budget.
The council did not set a construction start date during the discussion; staff indicated the work would be scheduled as part of regular Community Outreach Division operations.
