Addison council canvasses May 2025 election returns; administers oaths to mayor and three council members

The Addison City Council on May 13 formally canvassed the results of the town’s May 3, 2025 general election, approved the tabulation of returns and administered oaths of office and certificates to the mayor and three council members.

Valencia Garcia, Addison city secretary, presented the tabulation, telling the council she was "here to canvas the election results from the May 20 25 general election" and noting the election was ordered by ordinance 25 2 and administered by Dallas County. Garcia reported that Bruce Archston was reelected mayor with 823 votes; Randy Smith was elected to the council with 629 votes; and Dan Lizzio and Marlon Willison were each reelected to the council with 580 votes (total reported: 2,333 votes).

The council approved a motion to accept the canvass by voice vote. Following the approval, the new and returning members took the oath of office under the authority of the state of Texas; Mayor Bruce Archston recited the oath in the meeting and each council member likewise swore to "faithfully execute the duties" of their office. Certificates of election were then presented to the mayor and the three council members.

The canvass and oath-taking implement the council’s statutory duty to meet and declare election results after receiving county returns; Valencia Garcia said the city has officially received the results from Dallas County and that the council was meeting "as required by law" to canvas and declare the results.

No roll-call vote tally was entered in the transcript; the approval was recorded as a voice vote with members answering "aye," and the mayor announced, "item 3 is approved."
