The Grapevine City Council approved a conditional use permit to install three freestanding Level 3 rapid‑charge electric vehicle charging stations at Grapevine Mills Mall.
The council voted 7-0 to adopt the Planning and Zoning Commission’s recommendation to approve CU24-51. City staff said the chargers would be located near the mall’s northeast corner between Field House USA and Meow Wolf and would convert 12 existing parking spaces to accommodate six charging stalls served by three power units.
Erica Maroney, city planning staff, told the commission the subject property is about 36 acres in a Community Commercial (CC) district and the applicant proposed three power supply units, each with two dispensers. Brian Powers of Black & Veatch, the project engineer representing Electrify America, said each power supply will serve two dispensers and that one station will include an accessible stall to meet Americans with Disabilities Act reach and height requirements.
Powers said Electrify America is installing the stations as part of a federal public‑private charging program and that charging times vary by vehicle model and state of charge; he estimated rapid charging in “about 20, 25 minutes to about 35 to 40 minutes” in many cases. Powers said Electrify America typically includes accessible stalls as part of its installations.
The council’s approval allows the installation as described; staff noted no other site plan changes are required.
