The Grapevine City Council approved a zoning change for a city-owned indoor shooting range at 1960 Enchanted Way, rezoning approximately 3.4 acres from CC (Community Commercial District) to GU (Governmental Use District).
Planning staff explained the property is developed as an indoor shooting range owned and used by the city and its police department; it was rezoned from Planned Industrial District to Community Commercial in 1996 and used under a conditional use approved in 2012. The city purchased the property in 2018 for a private training facility used by the Grapevine Police Department and other state and federal agencies.
Lieutenant Caleb Goodman of the Grapevine Police Department presented slides and said the facility supports firearms and tactical training, including traffic stop and active-shooter response exercises. The staff report noted the site requires 15 parking spaces and currently provides 24. No exterior site-plan changes were proposed with the rezoning request.
The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval (7–0), and the council voted to adopt the rezoning ordinance in open session. Council members asked about landscape buffers and existing trees; Goodman said the area between the building and roadway includes grass, several mesquite trees and a couple of red oaks, and that the photograph shown was taken recently.
