Council affirms support for full DART funding while residents urge route change on Quorum

The Addison City Council on Feb. 25 adopted a resolution expressing support for continued full funding of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) system, while residents used public comment to urge DART and the town to address safety and noise issues tied to buses operating on Quorum Road.
Two residents described ongoing problems. Tricia Stewart (appearance card) told the council she had seen buses “screech” at crosswalks and said bus speed and proximity posed a safety risk to people crossing Quorum; she asked the town to press DART to slow vehicles in pedestrian areas. Chad Hoker said bus traffic on Quorum produces frequent noise “thumping” and rattling outside bedroom windows, and reported DART told him ridership on the route is low; Hoker said residents were preparing a petition asking DART to move the route back to Addison Road.
City staff and council members discussed enforcement and DART responsiveness. Chief of Police Chris Friess said Addison’s traffic unit has performed enforcement on Quorum and that he would provide a report on recent citations and enforcement history. City staff said DART told the council in a prior meeting it is evaluating moving one route and is still assessing other routes.
Councilmember Marlon moved the resolution in support of DART funding and Councilmember Darren seconded. The council approved the resolution; the vote was recorded as six in favor, one abstention. Councilmember Howard Fried announced his abstention.
Why it matters: Councilmembers said they support DART as a regional transit system and noted the town’s long financial contributions to DART; several councilmembers said they expect DART to be responsive and to address local safety and routing concerns. The resolution is symbolic — it does not change Addison’s remittance to DART — but councilmembers said supporting DART in Austin and elsewhere helps preserve regional transit investment while the town continues to press DART for route changes and safety fixes.
