Fire Chief David Jones presented the Addison Fire Department’s 2024 annual report to the council on April 8, highlighting awards, training and capital improvements completed during the year.
Jones said the department renewed a Texas Best Practices designation and maintained an ISO Class 1 rating—placing Addison among a small number of Texas departments with that top tier. He said the department was again recognized as a Heart Safe community by the North Texas Strong Memorial Advisory Council under American Heart Association metrics.
For 2024 the department purchased helmet and dash cameras, upgraded automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) and implemented a monthly AED monitoring program. Capital work included station improvements—roof, generator, ceiling tiles and restroom remodeling—and purchases of specialized equipment such as a tractor‑drawn aerial and new monitors. Jones said staff provided more than 600 hours of public education and that the department logged about 14,000 hours of training covering firefighting, technical rescue, aircraft rescue and a wide range of emergency medical training.
Jones noted the department’s operational profile: two fire stations, 52 sworn personnel in operations, approximately 52,000 combined years of service? (speaker gave a summary), front‑line apparatus and airport‑specific apparatus for aircraft rescue. He said the busiest month was January, with the department running about 11 calls per day; the busiest hour was 3 p.m., busiest day Tuesday.
Jones described emergency management gains, including a full‑time emergency management coordinator who completed the National Emergency Management Basic Academy and is leading regional coordination, exercises and an upcoming full‑scale exercise at Addison Airport.
Council members praised the report and asked that the annual report be posted online; Jones said a PDF and a posted link would be made available. No council action was required.
