Weatherford City Council retreat — City staff working on a proposed hotel and convention center told the council the city is finalizing a development agreement with a selected developer and expects to submit the site plan and agreement to the Texas comptroller together as the next step.
Project status: Ashley (economic development staff member) said the city has continued feasibility work on projected revenues and initial costs and is refining the pro forma with consultants. She said staff and outside consultants have “tremendous confidence” that the application to the comptroller will proceed without problems once the development agreement and final site plan are ready. Ashley also confirmed the comptroller review window and a 90‑day period referenced earlier in council briefings; she said that 90‑day clock began from the last presentation to council on April 8.
Funding and next steps: City Manager James and staff said the project team is sharpening revenue projections and development agreement terms; council discussed the complexity of the project and the length of time it has taken. Multiple council members noted significant progress this year and said the effort is a long‑range economic development investment. Staff will continue negotiations with the developer and finalize the package for comptroller submission.
Ending: Staff said they will return to council with final development and financing details as the agreements are completed and will update council if the comptroller’s timing or conditions change.
