City authorizes up to $1.05 million contract for active-transportation plan with 80% reimbursement

The Weatherford City Council approved a professional services agreement with Kimley‑Horn and Associates for an active-transportation master plan not to exceed $1,050,000, city staff told the council.
Assistant/Project lead Matt Loqua (staff) said the contract will deliver a pedestrian and bicycle connectivity master plan, a route study and schematic design, and 30% design plans for pedestrian safety improvements along the North Main corridor. He said the agreement is structured so that the city will be reimbursed 80% of the contract amount, with the city responsible for 20%.
Councilmembers praised the project as a way to connect north and south Weatherford and to position the city for federal and state funding to complete future projects. “One of the pieces of feedback we continuously receive from citizens is that they love the trail system that we have in our community,” a councilmember said, noting the work will extend trails and improve connectivity to the Mineral Wells trailhead.
Staff recommended approval; the motion passed (motion by Mayor Pro Tem Wilder; second by Matt Tiscus).
