Council approves 7‑Eleven fueling station and plat amid concerns about gas-station density

The Weatherford City Council approved a conditional use permit (CUP) and a preliminary plat to allow a 7‑Eleven fueling station and to divide the property into two commercial lots at the southeast corner of Jack Borden Way and Fort Worth Highway.
Brad White of Vicaro Ventures, the developer, told the council the site has been under environmental review with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and described the proposed store as roughly 5,000 square feet with 12 fueling positions. “This store features 12 fueling positions that are all in front of the store … and enhance security for customers,” White said.
Planning staff said the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended the CUP; staff’s recommendation included two conditions (temporary signage and construction timing). Council members raised concerns about the number of fueling stations in the immediate area. Staff provided a map showing existing stations and noted six stations within a roughly one-mile radius; Mayor Pro Tem Wilder and others said they want the Planning and Zoning Commission to study fueling-station density as a future work-session item.
Councilmembers also discussed aesthetics and the potential for the project to improve a long-troubled corner; several members described the proposed building elevations and site plan favorably. The preliminary plat divides the lot into two commercial lots: one for 7‑Eleven and one for a future pad. The CUP and preliminary plat passed (motion for approval by Councilman Zach Smith; second by Luke Williams for the CUP; preliminary plat motion by Luke Williams, second by Matt Tiscus).
