Public Works reports culvert approvals, safety committee, training and Elm Creek planning

The department also reported a regional project: the Southeast Kansas Regional Planning Commission is developing a comprehensive safety action plan to identify roadway solutions to reduce fatalities and serious-injury crashes across a multi-county area. An open house was announced for Wednesday, February 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buckhorn Community Center; staff encouraged residents to review materials and a QR-code-linked survey.
Operations updates included: a warranty repair on the county rock crusher (Murphy Tractor is handling a pump issue), hauling shot rock and ditch work north of Tomahawk, pickup of storm-related limbs, and difficulty keeping gravel roads in shape during freeze-thaw cycles. The department also said it is getting quotes for roof replacement on an Elm Creek facility and coordinating volunteers and community-service workers to assist with shelter-house repairs and maintenance.
Ending: Public Works said crews will continue routine maintenance and follow up on scheduled training and regional planning outreach; commissioners asked staff to keep the commission updated on Elm Creek planning and contractor quotes.
