The Weatherford City Council adopted Ordinance 02025-09 on March 25 to revise zoning code language that clarifies the responsibilities and discretionary authority of the planning director in reviewing applications.
The ordinance amends Title 12, Section 12-1-102 to revise provisions related to the planning director’s responsibilities. Staff described the change as a clarification of existing practice intended to reduce delays by allowing the planning director discretion to resolve interpretive conflicts without triggering longer amendment processes.
Mr. Kettner, planning staff, told council the amendment clarifies where the planning director may exercise discretion to interpret definitions and resolve conflicts so that applicants are not required to pursue a 30-to-45-day amendment process for issues that could be resolved administratively. “The planning director does have the ability to have discretion in interpreting, resolving conflicts, and moving projects forward,” he said.
Mayor Pro Tem Heidi Wilder moved for approval; Matt Tiscus seconded. The council voted to adopt the ordinance (vote tally not given in the meeting record). Council members framed the change as a customer-service improvement for applicants seeking clarity in the permitting process.
