The Weatherford City Council on March 25 adopted Ordinance 02025-08 to allow commercial electric vehicle charging stations as a permitted use in specified commercial and industrial zoning districts.
The ordinance amends Title 12 (zoning) — including Section 12-6-100 (definitions) and Sections 12-3-300 through 12-3-305 — to add electric vehicle charging stations as a permitted use in the central business district, general commercial, interstate commercial, heavy commercial and industrial zoning districts. Planning and Zoning recommended approval 5-0 and staff supported the amendment.
“By amending this, this clarifies what areas that they are permitted in, by right,” Mr. Kettner, planning staff, told council, summarizing the change and noting the ordinance also updates the definition and clarifies the kiosk concept. Councilmember Heidi Wilder moved for approval; Luke Williams seconded. The motion passed (vote tally not specified in the meeting record).
Staff told council the change removes the need for a conditional-use permit for most commercial charging installations and standardizes where charging stations are allowed by right in commercially zoned areas. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
The ordinance will be incorporated into the city’s zoning code; the effective date was not specified in the council discussion.
