Council hears request to study limited expansion of micro‑mobility pilot hours and boundary

Jana Wenzel, principal planner in the transportation department, updated the City Council on May 13 about Arlington’s micro‑mobility pilot, which currently operates between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. in a defined boundary.
Wenzel said staff has received feedback about expanding the operational boundary and hours and asked whether council wished staff to pursue analysis of those options. She noted the existing hours and boundaries were set for the pilot and that the report summarized user feedback to date.
Council members voiced caution about expanding into the entertainment district around stadiums; Council member Bridal said Cowboys- and Rangers-affiliated partners strongly oppose scooters near the entertainment district because of heavy pedestrian traffic during events. Council member Gonzales and others supported incremental changes limited to small, specific extensions, including possible expansion in the downtown/UTA area and small additional hours rather than rolling out citywide.
Council member Odom Wesley asked whether a full-service grocery store exists inside the current boundary; staff replied no, and council members said access to groceries for UTA students could be considered if boundaries change. Wenzel said staff will pursue committee review and return recommendations.
The pilot’s current schedule and feedback will be discussed by the Transportation and Municipal Committee if council directs further study; no change to the pilot was approved during the meeting.
