Council rejects all bids for city employee health benefits and tables selection

The item had appeared on the consent agenda as a recommendation to select Bastian, Stevens, Bastian & Cartwright LLP for Bridgeport employee health benefits-related services, but council members pulled the item from consent for discussion. City staff told council that they recommended rejecting all bids and taking time to review and tweak the city’s bidding practices.
Councilman Bobby Rodriguez moved to reject all bids and table the matter; Councilman Preston Brown seconded the motion. The motion carried on a 5-0 vote. Council did not adopt an alternate selection at the meeting; staff will return with revised procurement recommendations and any revised bids at a future council meeting.
No final contract award or vendor selection was made at the May 12 meeting; the council’s action effectively clears the current set of responses and directs staff to revisit procurement steps before bringing the item back for consideration.
