Walton County Code Compliance selected 150 winners in its annual Scribe on the Beach permit lottery during a delayed drawing held this morning at the Freeport Annex.
The lottery, which accepts applications each year from April 1 to May 10, produced 1,108 eligible applicants this year; the county will notify winners by email and publish a list on the county website later today. Winners have from June 1 to June 30 to purchase and pay for their permits.
Kim Jones, with Walton County Code Compliance, apologized for a technical delay that forced the drawing to move from the South Walton Annex to the Freeport Annex and began reading names from a shuffled list. “I would like to apologize for the delay on the lottery drawing this morning. We were having some technical difficulties in our South Walton Annex boardroom,” Jones said. Jones also told applicants that names printed on the paper slips include application numbers to verify winners with common names.
Jones said the office will notify selected applicants by email and post the full list on the county website under Code Compliance later in the day. She encouraged those who did not win to apply next year, noting that the application period will reopen April 1.
The drawing process was administrative only; no formal vote or legislative action was taken. County staff will carry out follow-up tasks including posting the winners list, sending emails to selected applicants, and processing permit purchases during the June 1–30 purchase window.
Officials did not specify the exact time the list would go live on the website or the method for handling disputes beyond verifying winners by application number. Applicants with questions were directed to contact the Code Compliance office.
