The Angleton City Council approved an ordinance rezoning approximately 0.36 acres at 627 East Locust from single-family residential (R-6.3) to two-family residential to enable financing and lot consolidation for two dwelling units.
City staff briefed council that property owner Dennis Gafford requested rezoning so a mortgage company could consolidate parcels to accommodate two units. The Planning & Zoning Commission voted 6–2 to recommend approval with two conditions: limit the number of units to the two existing units and reconcile the lot consolidation with a consolidated plat.
Staff said the rezoning is consistent with existing duplex zoning in the area and that adjacent zoning and the land-use map show duplex zoning nearby. Council voted to approve the ordinance with the conditions recommended by the Planning & Zoning Commission.
The ordinance limits the property to two residences and requires plat reconciliation to ensure the lot configuration is consistent with the requested zoning.
