The Angleton City Council approved a specific-use permit allowing a monthly farmers/community market at the Tractor Supply store on North Velasco Street, subject to conditions including restricted hours, a two-year review period and maintaining fire-lane access.
Planning staff explained the SUP permits a monthly market on approximately 6.2 acres at 2916 North Velasco Street, to occur once per month on a second Saturday afternoon (4–8 p.m.). The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval 6–0 with conditions addressing hours of operation and ensuring vendor booths do not obstruct emergency access lanes.
A Tractor Supply representative told council the store will not charge vendor permit fees and that the market is intended as community outreach. He said when vendors previously placed booths in the fire lane the store had adjusted the layout to keep the lane clear. "I can lay it out differently... to make sure we stay within the codes," the representative told council.
Council approved the SUP by voice vote with the stated condition that fire lanes remain unobstructed and that the permit will be evaluated after two years for possible permanency.
Staff said the two-year review gives the city an opportunity to evaluate impacts and return to council for a permanent authorization if desired.
