The Mesquite City Council approved a request for qualifications to hire project management services to oversee renovations of multiple city facilities as part of the consent agenda, voting unanimously 7-0.
City Manager Cliff Kaheeli said the contract request covers oversight from hiring the architect through project completion. "This is, management from the, initial hiring of the architect through the completion of the project," Kaheeli said, adding the city sought outside construction expertise to address technical issues and reduce staff time and costs.
Councilmember Tandy Burrows asked whether the RFQ covered only the project management work or the entire construction cost: "Is this just for the cost for this is just just for them to do the work or is this the whole project?" Kaheeli replied that the scope is for project management and related expertise — architects, construction experts and pricing — rather than financing the full construction directly.
The RFQ was included in consent items 1 through 5, which the council approved on a single motion. Councilmember Kenny Green moved to approve the consent agenda; Tandy Burrows seconded. The motion passed unanimously, 7-0.
No dollar amounts, firm names, or contract lengths were disclosed during the council discussion. The RFQ will proceed through the city's procurement process as listed on the agenda.
The council debated the item briefly during the consent review; no separate public hearing or amendment to the RFQ was recorded in the meeting transcript.
