Council honors local preservation leaders and city volunteer groups

At its May 5 meeting the Waxahachie City Council presented a series of recognitions honoring volunteers and staff contributions to historic preservation, beautification and emergency management.
Kyle presented that Keep Waxahachie Beautiful earned Silver Affiliate status with Keep Texas Beautiful; the group will receive a certificate at the Keep Texas Beautiful conference in Austin. Council members also recognized Becky Kaufman for receiving the 2025 Ruth Lester Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Historical Commission; speakers noted Kaufman's four decades of preservation advocacy and work founding Historic Waxahachie, Inc., and her service on the Heritage Preservation Commission.
City staff also recognized Donna (last name not provided in the meeting comments) for earning the Certified Emergency Manager designation from the International Association of Emergency Managers, a credential the presenter described as the organization’s highest professional designation. Council and staff presented each honoree and invited them forward for photographs.
