Board approves nearly $2 million contract to modernize Camp Verde Detention Center electronics

The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a cooperative procurement agreement May 7 to upgrade security electronics at the Camp Verde Detention Center.

Brandon Schultz, facilities director, described the nearly $2 million contract with CML Security to replace door control systems, cameras and intercoms at the Camp Verde facility. He said the existing systems are aged and that updated camera quality, data storage and door‑control integrations are needed for staff safety, inmate monitoring and constitutional protections.

Chief Deputy Jeff Newnham of the sheriff’s office told the board the intercoms work in conjunction with cameras and door controls and described cases where cameras must move automatically to the door being pressed; he said the current system has gaps and some cameras no longer correspond with intercoms. Schultz said bringing Camp Verde into line with the county’s other detention facilities will improve training, maintenance and long‑term vendor support.

The board approved the procurement unanimously; the contract will also allow the county to seek ongoing maintenance and programming support from the vendor for technical elements beyond county staff capabilities.
