The Angleton Planning and Zoning Commission voted to forward a positive recommendation to city council for a specific-use permit to allow a monthly farmers/community market at the Tractor Supply property at 2916 North Velasco.
City planning staff told commissioners that April Stewart of Tractor Supply has operated a monthly farmers market and sought formal approval for the use in the Commercial General (CG) zoning district. Staff said the proposed schedule is the second Saturday of each month from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., chosen to avoid daytime conflicts with other nearby markets and to offer cooler evening hours in summer. Staff reported no major issues with the proposed layout and noted conditions to preserve fire lanes and access.
Staff said the permit would carry a required two-year renewal so the city could monitor impacts; counsel will review whether a longer-term approval is appropriate if operations prove successful. A representative for the applicant was present and commissioners did not record opposition from the public during the hearing.
Commissioner Clark moved that the commission adopt the final report and forward it to city council with a positive recommendation and the noted conditions; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
If approved by city council, the specific-use permit will allow the market on about 6.2 acres in the CG district at the Tractor Supply site subject to the time limitations and safety conditions discussed by staff.
