City Council clears final plats for two Ashland sections, pauses remainder for review

Angleton City Council on Jan. 14 approved final plats for Ashland Section 1 and Ashland Section 2, clearing the remaining referral-agency conditions and allowing the developer to proceed toward construction document approval.

City staff told the council they had received letters of no objection from Brazoria County and that the Angleton Drainage District had withdrawn its earlier concerns. Staff said city engineers are comfortable moving the two sections to final plat and will continue coordinating construction inspections and pre-construction meetings with the developer.

The council pulled the Ashland items from the consent agenda for discussion. Otis (staff member) outlined the attachments in the packet, including drainage letters and the county'provided maintenance guidance for Angleton Boulevard. Councilmembers asked about the location of a potential future fire station that had been discussed in prior meetings; Otis said the developer will present two alternative sites at a future meeting and that the location shown for the fire station in the packet was an option, not an approval.

Councilmember Britton Townsend moved to approve items 5 and 6 (the final plats for Ashland Section 1 and Section 2); Councilman Roberts seconded. The mayor called the vote, and the motion carried.

Staff said final construction documents and related permits remain required; the plats clear referral-agency conditions so the developer can proceed with engineering and permitting. The council did not take separate action on other Ashland-related plats that remained on the consent agenda.

The council discussion also touched on drainage and the Angleton Drainage District's settlement with the applicant, both of which staff said are included among the packet attachments. The developer will continue coordination with city engineering on inspections and construction oversight.
