District staff said some buses are nearing high mileage and the number of special‑needs routes has increased, influencing the procurement.
The bid process was completed last year and the recommended purchase is budgeted in the district’s general fund and capital planning. The board and staff discussed whether camera/recorder systems (estimated at about $5,000 per bus) would be included; the procurement amount excludes those cameras. Staff said the district has been updating cameras across the fleet and would examine whether systems from retired buses could be transferred if appropriate.
The motion passed on a roll call with all members present voting yes: Monica Talley, Miss Green, Mister Twist, Dave George and Angela Barnes.
District staff said they will continue balancing capital priorities and may adjust timing of other purchases to accommodate the buses within the board‑approved spending limit.
