Frisco Fire Department awarded national ambulance-service accreditation

The Frisco Fire Department announced it received accredited status from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) on Feb. 28, 2025, the department told the City Council during its April 15 meeting.
City officials said the accreditation followed an 18-month application process in which the department documented more than 100 performance indicators covering policies and programs for prehospital patient care. The department’s presentation noted a CAAS site visit and commended the department’s clinical innovations, including carrying blood products on ambulances, the use of antibiotics in the field and a prehospital amputation protocol.
The department’s medical director, Dr. Mark Gamber, was singled out by the presentation for his role in training and supporting those clinical changes. Council members and staff emphasized that CAAS accreditation is rare: the presentation reported that about 2% of EMS agencies nationwide hold CAAS accreditation and said Frisco is the third fire-based EMS system in Texas to receive it.
The department also connected the accreditation to local readiness and oversight, saying ongoing reviews will be required to keep protocols current and to meet the standards set by CAAS. Fire Department officials reported the accreditation “ensures that our community will receive the highest quality of patient care consistent with nationally accepted standards” and thanked city management and medical control for their support.
The presentation included operational updates: firefighters deployed across Texas for wildfire response in March and personnel promotions associated with the upcoming opening of Station 10, which staff said should occur within about 60 days. The department also invited the public to the Citizens Fire Academy graduation and said Class 48 registration will open in July.
Council members congratulated department staff and recognized the accreditation as a milestone for Frisco’s emergency medical services.
