Frisco veterans committee nears fundraising goal for Purple Heart Monument; aims for Memorial Day 2025 installation

The Frisco Veterans Advisory Committee reported Tuesday it has raised $42,250 of a $50,000 fundraising goal for a planned Purple Heart Monument and intends to place an order and install the monument in time for Memorial Day 2025.
Rob Altman, chair of the Frisco Veterans Advisory Committee, outlined the monument’s location on the west side of the existing veterans memorial and presented a rendering to council. Altman credited partners including American Legion Peter J. Corsi Post 178, the VFW, the Frisco Garden Club and corporate and citizen donors for the fundraising progress.
Altman told council the committee planned additional smaller statues to act as sentinels near the monument and that staff from Play Frisco and Parks and Recreation, including Eddie Camacho, are coordinating site work to meet the Memorial Day timetable. “We are a few dollars shy of our goal,” Altman said, “but we’re going to make that happen.”
William Chatfield, who described past federal service related to veterans affairs, urged public support for the monument and recounted returning a lost Purple Heart to a local family. Council discussed how residents can donate; speakers directed residents to search “Build a Purple Heart Monument in Frisco” to find a link to donate and to the Frisco Veterans Advisory Committee website for event information.
Altman said the committee’s fundraising total was current as of Jan. 16; he asked council and members of the public to continue donating to reach the $50,000 target and to support related veteran events.
