Board to stand up public safety, transportation and South Gosling golf committees; charters to return for approval

The Woodlands Township Board on May 13 instructed staff to prepare formal charters and bring them back for approval to establish three committees: a public safety committee, an ad hoc transportation/traffic committee and a South Gosling Park/public golf committee.

Directors said the public safety committee should focus on contract negotiations, coordination with the county sheriff’s office and public-safety-related elements in economic development agreements; staff said a charter must be approved before members can be appointed. The board also requested an ad hoc transportation committee that would coordinate regularly with the two county commissioners about county-owned roads and mobility, and a committee to evaluate South Gosling Park parcels and access for public golf or other uses.

Monique (staff member) confirmed staff will bring committee charters to the board for adoption; once charters are approved the board can appoint members. Directors suggested each committee include board members and resident representatives for community perspective; the South Gosling committee was discussed as a three-board-member plus three-resident panel to examine access and potential uses.

No formal vote was taken at the meeting on committee appointments; the board agreed on scope and asked staff to prepare the required charters and any timeline or budget implications for committee work. Staff warned that while drafting charters is administratively straightforward, the operational work each committee performs will require staff time and, in some cases, budgetary resources.
