Pickerington Local honors student athletes, arts and academic achievers at board recognition ceremony

Pickerington Local School District held an honor and recognition ceremony on Jan. 27 at Pickerington High School North, where administrators and board members recognized students for academic, athletic and performing-arts achievements.
Interim Superintendent Scott J. Hahn opened the program, saying, "I am honored to welcome you to the Pickerington Board of Education's honor and recognition ceremony," and praised students, families and staff for their contributions. Principal Jim Campbell and Assistant Superintendent Alicia Gillison joined Hahn in presenting awards.
The program highlighted middle- and high-school achievements across arts, academics and fall sports. Among individual recognitions, Preston Hudson and Cameron Dansby were named Kappa Marquee award nominees; Sophia Shaw and others were cited for OMEA All-State orchestra or band selections; and multiple students were chosen to perform at OMEA professional development events. Athletic recognitions included Jaden Verdin (All-Ohio first team) for boys soccer and Olivia McEwen (24 goals, All-Ohio honors) for girls soccer. The Pickerington High School North girls volleyball team was noted for a historic season culminating in a state final four appearance.
Administrators thanked coaches, teachers and families and noted awards that were not presented in person would be delivered to homes and principals. The program concluded with recognition of outgoing Superintendent Chris Briggs, whose last day was announced as Jan. 31.
The ceremony immediately preceded the board's regular business meeting.
