Jones said the incident "has deeply affected our community, especially the staff and families who have their trust in the school every day" and asked the board to close the school so affected staff have space to attend court and process the event without professional responsibilities.
"Closing the school is a small but powerful gesture that prioritizes healing and sends a clear message that this kind of violation will never be tolerated," Jones said.
Board members thanked Jones for speaking and said they would follow up to confirm the hearing date and consider the request. A trustee noted a potential hearing date of Jan. 23 but said dates may shift if the hearing is postponed; the superintendent or staff offered to speak with Jones after the meeting to share details.
